Genoud and Musumeci for Rizzoli: Interview with Stefano Peccatori

In the second issue of ge.M – the annual magazine by Musumeci and Genoud that explores the craftsmanship behind the publication of prestigious volumes – publishing takes centre stage through an exclusive interview with Stefano Peccatori.
As President and CEO of Rizzoli International Publications, Peccatori spoke to ge.M about not only the renowned publishing house, but also the iconic Rizzoli Bookstore in New York, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2014.
Originally opened in 1964 as a bookshop, Rizzoli New York launched its publishing arm a decade later. From the very beginning, the imprint set itself apart by focusing on high-end illustrated books. Angelo Rizzoli – a key figure in Italy’s cultural industry, spanning both cinema and publishing – was a frequent presence in New York and realised there was a gap in the market for a bookstore dedicated entirely to illustrated books. This led him to open the first Rizzoli Bookstore on Fifth Avenue. The transition from bookseller to publisher came ten years later, and ever since, Rizzoli New York has continued to grow in prestige – thanks above all, as Peccatori told ge.M, to its carefully curated selection of titles, which have always stood out for their perfect balance of substance and style.
And it is precisely “style” that lies at the heart of Musumeci Printing Atelier’s work for Rizzoli, as Peccatori explained: “The Musumeci printing atelier is our go-to partner for projects crafted to perfection – thanks to the experience and dedication of Michele Biza and his teams, the technology, colour optimisation, and even the option for UV LED printing. What’s more, we can rely on them for the entire production process, right through to binding,” he said.
The ge.M editorial team also asked the CEO of Rizzoli International Publications if there was a particular volume he held dear. ”Born in Oasi Zegna – the book we developed with the historic company from Biella – is a standout for both concept and paper engineering. Also, the long-standing collaboration with Dolce&Gabbana, which has led to the publication of several titles, most recently the stunning Monica Bellucci. That project allowed us to experiment with materials, formats, photographers and art directors in completely new ways.”
